Setting up Google Business Profile means creating (or claiming) your business listing on Google so you appear in Google Search and Google Maps when local customers search for what you do. It is free and takes under 30 minutes.

Before you start

You need a Google account. Search your business name on Google Maps first. If a listing already exists, click "Claim this business." If not, create a new one at business.google.com.

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

    Go to business.google.com

Click "Manage now" and sign in.

  2. 2

    Enter your business name

Use your exact business name as it appears on signage. Do not add keywords here.

  3. 3

    Choose your category

Select the most specific category for your primary service. This is the most important ranking decision you will make.

  4. 4

    Choose your location type

If customers visit you, add your address. If you go to customers, hide the address and set a service area.

  5. 5

    Add phone and website

These appear in your listing and let customers contact you in one tap.

  6. 6

    Verify

Google sends a postcard (5-14 days), or may offer instant phone/email verification. You must verify before your listing goes live.

After verification: immediate next steps
